Restricted affect is characterized by a clear reduction in the expressive range and intensity of affects. The normal expression of affect involves variability in facial expression, pitch of voice, and the use of hand and body movements. Other than the constricted and blunted affect, there are other forms of affect that can be observed as well. A range of affect may be described as broad (normal), restricted (constricted), blunted, or flat.
